Goal Setting Power - Goal Setting Explained

Goal setting has been around for longer than anyone can remember. It is well known that goal setting is the fastest, easiest and most powerful way to get the things we want from life. Which obviously then begs the question--
Why do so many people have so much trouble with goal setting?
After all, if it were so easy, then surely everyone and their dog would be setting and achieving goals to their heart's content. But as you and I both know, this is certainly not the case.
The fact is that goal setting, the truly powerful, almighty type of goal setting, remains a mystery to most people. There are a very select few who have mastered goal setting so that they can achieve anything they want, anytime they please.
In this quick article I am going to show you five quick ways that you can immediately bolster your goal setting skills, and at the end I will tell you a little bit about a tool that I discovered that has the ability to really take your goal setting to a level few will ever reach.
1. Use a Goal Book. It is easy to dream about our goals, to maybe write them on a scrap of paper and stick it to the corner of the computer monitor, but when you use this invaluable tool you are making a much bigger commitment to your goals. A good goal book can help you break your goals down into more manageable chunks, and help keep you motivated during your goal setting journey. Think of your goal book as your success journal.
2. Understand that Failures are Going to Happen. It's a fact of life that things never go exactly according to plan. Maybe we were too unrealistic with our goals, or maybe outside factors and circumstances affected our plans. The reality is that things will never go perfectly. Once you understand that things aren't going to go smoothly, that your own goal setting journey is going to be trying and rocky, than you are that much less likely to throw in the towel the moment you get sacked with adversity.
3. Build a Support System to Help You Succeed. Seems obvious, doesn't it? But there's a good chance that you don't even realize how much of an impact the people in your life have on you and your odds of success. Surround yourself with supportive and tough love, and more importantly, with people who want to see you succeed. It's stunning how many people out there are infected with petty jealousies, and their own insecurities, just waiting for the moment you fail. Cull these people from your life as soon as you can.
4. Pick Your Goal, Than Work Backwards. Go step-by-step in reverse until you have all the steps necessary to get you from A-to-Z. Starting from Z is a lot more fun. You're not looking up the hill, you're looking back down, and this is a lot less intimidating.
5. Make Your Goal Bigger Than Yourself. This is something most people using goal setting overlook. Look, eventually you are going to get tired and start to run out of gas. We all have those days where the last thing we do is go after the things we want. Maybe we're stressed, maybe we're just tired. It's these moments that you need that extra little kick of motivation, and you can find it by looking for the "greater than yourself" part of your goal. What does this mean exactly? It means that when you make your goal and get started with goal setting that you should always look for a way to make your goals bigger than your own satisfaction. If you have a goal to be wealthy, outline how you are going to use your wealth to improve your community. If you are looking to lose weight, start a blog so that you can inspire others to live a healthy life as well. Make your goals bigger than just your own wants and needs, and suddenly you become accountable to not only yourself.
